Welcome to Central Maths Hub (WM1) The Maths Hubs Programme, coordinated by the NCETM, brings together mathematics education professionals in a collaborative national network of 40 hubs, each locally led by an outstanding school or college, to develop and spread excellent practice, for the benefit of all pupils and students. Central Maths Hub offer 30+ Work Group, Programmes and Community based FREE CPD opportunities to all (state funded) schools/colleges across Birmingham, Dudley and Sandwell. Ensure you sign-up before the end of the summer term to reserve a place. Limited places are available, we will endeavour to accommodate at least one participant from each school. |
PRIMARY SCHOOLS
Teaching for Mastery - Open Days We would like to invite the Maths Lead and Headteacher of schools who have not recently engaged in our Primary 'Teaching for Mastery' programme to attend one of our Mastery Days this summer. At the Mastery Days Leaders will be given guidance on resuming their Teaching for Mastery journey through re-engaging with our Sustaining Work Groups - we would be really pleased to have your school back on board. Friday 12th July at: Challoner House, Institute Road, Kings Heath B14 7EG 9:15 - 3pm (bring your own lunch) We will include looking at the principles of teaching for mastery, introduce the five big ideas, include a KS1 and KS2 demo lesson, explore some maths using a CPA approach and allow opportunities for questions bespoke to school settings. Primary TfM Readiness
Schools will be allocated a trained, accredited professional development lead to work with them on a bespoke progrmme. This involves 6 workshops across the year, working on different elements of maths leadership along with a small group of other schools, plus regular visits from the Work Group Lead, who supports the school in self-evaluation, action planning and taking steps to promote long-term, whole school, change over time in the teaching and learning of mathematics. Primary TfM Development
Work Groups will be led by one of our Mastery Specialists and will involve six or seven primary schools. During the year, the group will work closely together to introduce and develop approaches to teaching for mastery. There is no fee or charge to participating schools to take part in this Work Group. The Maths Hub meets the cost of running the Work Group. Each school will receive a £1000 grant towards the cost of the required teacher release time. Primary TfM Embedding These Work Groups will supports schools to embed teaching for mastery approaches with fidelity and consistency, making effective use of high-quality resources. Each school will have a lead participant in the Work Group (normally the Maths Lead), who is responsible for leading and embedding developments in the subject. Schools who complete the Development stage will automatically be enrolled on to the Embedding programme. The school Headteacher and Maths Lead will be sent details. Primary TfM Sustaining This project supports schools to continue to embed and sustain teaching for mastery approaches. There will be specific 'Pathways' that schools can join. Schools who complete the Embedding stage will automatically be enrolled on to the Sustaining programme. The Headteacher will be sent details. |

Secondary TfM Development Maths Hub Work Groups, each led by a Mastery Specialist, offer locally-based, collaborative CPD. Two teachers (‘Mastery Advocates’) from each of a small group of schools or colleges, meet half termly. Together they develop classroom and departmental approaches consistent with teaching for mastery. There is no fee or charge to participating schools to take part in this Work Group. Each department will receive £2000 to enable the Mastery Advocates to work with the Secondary Mastery Specialist and thus enable them to work within their own department. Secondary TfM Embedding This project is for those departments who participated in the previous year's Secondary TfM Development Work Group and who are beginning to embed teaching for mastery. The focus will be on constructing or refining a coherent development plan, and supporting and leading the whole department in realising the aims of that plan. The school will also be part of a Secondary TfM Sustaining Work Group with other schools. To enquire please Email: [email protected] |
Secondary TfM Embedding This project is for secondary heads of department in schools already involved with Maths Hubs and to those who are not yet involved. In their first year of engagement with this project, participants will be part of a Work Group. In subsequent years they will be part of a Maths Hub-led subject leadership community.
