Higher-Level Maths Achievement
This brand new and FREE Work Group is aimed at teachers in state-funded Secondary schools who have been identified as having disadvantaged students with high prior attainment levels. This Work Group is run in partnership with AMSP.
At least one participant teacher from each school should attend all sessions to trial strategies in the classroom and share learning with colleagues.
As criteria is set by the DfE, we will be in touch directly with schools who have students who would benefit most from this programme.
What is involved?
This Work Group is designed to help schools increase the number of students – particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds – achieving higher grades in GCSE Mathematics and progressing to study maths at post-16.
It is made up of three parts:
1. Maths Hub Work Group – professional development for teachers
Participant teachers work with other teachers from local schools, supported by a Mastery Specialist and an AMSP colleague, to explore strategies and teaching approaches that promote high attainment and motivation.
Work Group sessions will include collaborative planning and reflection, with opportunities to adapt and trial high-impact tasks in the classroom to deepen understanding of challenging areas of the secondary maths curriculum.
2. Student Study Days
As part of the programme, the AMSP will be hosting 3 FREE events across the year for students at each participating school (approx 10-15 students from each of years 10/11). Further details will be provided. There may also be a study day for Year 7 students in summer term (tbc).
3. Bespoke support for schools
The AMSP local lead will work directly with your maths department to share evidence based advise with your teachers and school leaders.
