SKTM: Early Years Teachers
Who can take part?
Designed specifically to support Early Years practitioners to develop their subject knowledge about the effective provision for mathematics learning, this programme will focus on developmental progression around the concepts of Number. The programme will also support with developing understanding around, what research tells us, is effective with younger children and give opportunities to consider pedagogical approaches and how they impact on learning and teaching of this area of mathematics.
What is involved?
The programme will also support with developing understanding around, what research tells us, is effective with younger children and give opportunities to consider pedagogical approaches and how they impact on learning and teaching of the chosen area of mathematics.
This programme is ideal for teachers who are new or with limited EY Maths experience.
A pathway is available for Number and Spatial Reasoning for the 2025/2026 academic year.
Comprising 4 sessions, each with a specific focus plus lots of activities to trial in the classroom between each session and share findings with the Work Group.

- You will explore and increase your use of pedagogic approaches that will support pupils in engaging with and developing their maths
- You will understand how maths opportunities can be developed across all areas and in everyday routines
- Your pupils will demonstrate a positive attitude towards maths, being willing to have a go, persevere and share their mathematical ideas
