Post 16: Developing A Level Pedagogy
Who is this for?
This Work Group is ideal for existing leaders of A level Mathematics or experienced A level Mathematics teachers who want to develop their own pedagogy and support the development of colleagues within their department, school or across other schools.
Previous participants are very welcome to join again. Each year has a different focus and introduces new content, providing opportunities to continue developing and refining practice.
What is involved?
The Work Group brings together established A level Mathematics teachers to explore a locally selected pedagogical theme and consider how this can strengthen teaching and learning.
Participants will work collaboratively to explore approaches, reflect on classroom practice and trial ideas with their own students. Participants must therefore be currently teaching an A level Mathematics group.
This is particularly suitable for teachers who have previously undertaken A level subject knowledge or pedagogy CPD and are ready to deepen their practice further.
This is not a subject knowledge enhancement programme. The focus is on experienced A level teachers working collaboratively to develop pedagogy and improve students' mathematical understanding.
What will you learn?
Through participation in the Work Group:
- your students will develop a deeper conceptual understanding of A level Mathematics;
- you will explore the purpose of the overarching themes, including the effective use of technology, and their impact on teaching and learning;
- you will consider how principles of teaching for mastery can be applied effectively within A level Mathematics; and
- you and your department will develop deeper pedagogical content knowledge, with opportunities to share and embed approaches across your team.
Work Group Dates
All sesssions will be based at Bishop Challoner Catholic College, starting at 9:30am and ending 3pm.
