Teaching for Mastery
This programme is for teachers in schools that have previously engaged with a Secondary Teaching for Mastery Programme or Work Group. This includes all schools which have previously engaged with a Development Work Group and schools that have had a Secondary Mastery Specialist trained.
What is involved?
The focus for this Work Group is looking at and discussing strategies to help students learn to solve problems, and will consider how to make problem solving accessible for all students.
There will be 3 half-day workshops across the academic year for participants to attend.
We are very aware that each school has its unique strengths and challenges and we hope that our programme is able to deliver elements of what your school needs, when you need it! Our model for 2026-27 has been developed to offer schools a choice of foci for departments, to best suit their needs.
What will I learn?
You will develop a shared, whole-department approach to teaching for mastery, be able to support pupils to meet age-related expectations and develop deeper understanding of key mathematical ideas. Aswell as network with other local schools and share best practice
For all participant schools, there is an expectation that the subject leader participates in their local Secondary Maths Subject Leader Community.
