Sustaining Pathway
The Sustaining Pathway is designed so that the schools can tailor the pathway to suit their school requirements and/or staff CPD development.

TOPIC TWO - Parental Engagement
This pathway, consisting of two half-day workshops has been designed for schools who have adopted a mastery approach to mathematics teaching and have engaged with Mastering Number across Reception and KS1. We will explore the benefits of engaging parents with supporting children’s mathematical learning at home, consider evidence of impact, explore a range of resources and activities and all teachers who attend will leave with a full set of Parent Workshop Power Point slides, along with printable activities to use with parents/children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. We will also consider how these principles and approaches can be applied to work with parents in other year groups.

TOPIC THREE - SEN
Teachers of pupils with Special Educational Needs
This pathway will be designed around the bespoke requirements of primary/secondary special schools (also applicable to mainstream teaching children who are working in a significantly different way to their peers, perhaps in additional units etc). Focus will be on the early stages of learning mathematics, considering spatial and sensory learning, as well as early number and the strategies and resources which can support children taking small steps on their learning journeys. Prior to the pathway first date, teachers will be asked to complete a short survey in order to assess requirements.

TOPIC FOUR - Oracy
This pathway will focus on how mathematical oracy can be used to improve children's reasoning, understanding, and overall enjoyment of mathematics. It consists of three half-day sessions, during which we will explore practical strategies that teachers and maths leads can apply to their own practice and share with their colleagues in school. Between sessions, teachers will have the chance to implement these strategies and reflect on their effectiveness in subsequent sessions.

TOPIC FIVE
Collaborative planning with a focus on Multiplication

This is an opportunity to explore, plan and deliver multiplication across your primary school. We will focus on collaborative lesson planning to plan the subject content and pedagogy that supports the knowledge and skills for multiplication. We will have discussions that are focused on sequence of times tables, mediums of delivery, resources and anticipating misconceptions using a range of materials from NCETM.

TOPIC SIX - Collaborative planning for KS1
This pathway is designed to support teachers, ECTs, phase leaders and maths leads in KS1 to plan effective maths lessons using the NCETM materials and supporting documents. We will look at planning a sequence of lessons underpinned by the 5 big ideas. Participants will collaboratively engage in S planning, lesson design and assessment. There will be the opportunity to observe live learning and look at the next lesson in the sequence. This collaborative model can be taken back into schools and put into practice.

TOPIC NINE - Maths Leadership
Developing Maths Leads – for Maths Leads who may be:

New to the role of maths lead
New to a leadership role
New to their school
Returning to maths leadership after a break
A Maths Lead who has no previous Maths Leadership specific CPD
A teacher moving to the role of Maths Leader (part of school succession planning)

This is a new and bespoke pathway which will run in addition to three leadership workshops across the year.

We will seek to answer the question of ‘How do Mathematics Leaders work with SLTs to ensure whole school culture supports fidelity to teaching for mastery over time?’

We will unpick the role of Mathematics Lead, consider this in relation to leadership of other subjects, explore ways of working with SLT to ensure a whole school approach and consider effective practice based upon research in the field of subject leadership.
