For all schools that have completed the Primary Teaching for Mastery Embedding programme
This session will reflect on the work completed and celebrate successes of this year (particularly as some HTs were not able to join the Maths Leads). Led by our Teaching for Mastery Leads, this session will and look forward to next year and the new models planned, to ensure that:
- more staff across each school have opportunities to benefit from the Sustaining work
- the programme continues to support all schools within this phase, whether next year will be their first or second year.
Why are these Work Groups needed?
The strategic goal of the programme for primary schools is to establish teaching for mastery approaches so that all pupils develop deep knowledge, understanding and confidence. Primary schools working on establishing teaching for mastery are first supported in a development Work Group and then in an embedding Work Group (and, in some cases, initially a Mastery Readiness Work Group). These Sustaining Work Groups are being seen as a permanent form of free support for maths in primary schools where, through collaborative practices, schools can focus on the continued improvement, consistency and refinement of a teaching for mastery approach.
The teachers and leaders will strive to ensure that all teachers can be supported to sustain teaching for mastery across school, looking particularly in the areas of collaborative planning and specialist subject knowledge development.
What are the intended outcomes of the Sustaining Work Groups?
In the focused areas of the maths curriculum addressed by the Work Group during the year, pupils will:
