Overview
This Work Group aims to support Early Years practitioners in developing specialist knowledge for teaching mathematics to children aged 3-5 years, thus enabling them to understand, teach and support pupils across the provision.
Participants will gain a greater understanding of developmental progression in Early Years to ensure sequences of learning are cohesive. The Work Group has Early Years’ pedagogy at its heart and explores how to make the most of opportunities to develop mathematical learning across wider provision. Best practice in EYs and how these approaches link to a Teaching for Mastery approach is a thread running throughout.
Audience
Early Years teachers and EYs practitioners (this may include TAs) and maths leaders wanting to develop their understanding of mathematics in EYs. This will be of particular interest to NQTs and teachers new to EYs, or anyone who has not benefited from EYs specific maths training.
There are two types of pathway and this year we are initially offering the Pathway of: Pattern, Shape, Space and Measure (including how to support home learning).
Workshops will be online and there will be an online community where resources, further reading, discussion, reflection will be shared.
