Shanghai Maths Working Group
The Shanghai Maths Work Group, led by Elizabeth Bridgett.
Elizabeth visited Shanghai in September 2015 as part of the Maths Hub England-China teacher exchange. She jointly hosted Shanghai colleagues for their return visit and led a comprehensive programme of observations, which enabled over 100 colleagues from across the region to experience 'The Shanghai Approach' first hand.
To look at the key elements of the lesson design, including:
- good questions to draw out misconceptions
- procedures and conceptual variation
- good examples
We will be looking at some of the key issues and points raised during the Shanghai secondary exchange and using these to plan for lessons in the English curriculum. For example, conceptual and procedural variation, drawing out misconceptions, underlying issues, sensible sequencing , intelligent practice, challenging questions on seemingly easy topics!
We will be looking at the Shanghai text books and lessons and seeing what we can draw from them and use. And trying to find out what works for us and what doesn't
