The Central Maths Hub will welcome Les Staves to Colmers Farm Primary School to lead a workshop specifically designed for teachers of Mathematics who support students with severe or profound learning difficulties.

His courses relate to children right across the P scales – P1 to 8 and those who are working towards or bridging into early national curriculum levels.

The day is firmly based in experience and knowledge of children’s development, and very special needs. It will provide you with many practical ideas. His main aims are to provoke your thinking and motivate your teaching, but he always hopes to both entertain you and touch your teaching heart.

Very Special Mathematics is for people working with children with severe or complex learning difficulties of any age.
It covers
* The sensory beginnings of maths.
* What is an appropriate curriculum for very special children
* The importance Learning to learn.
* How children learn to think.
* The earliest levels of numeracy that spring from ‘Number Sense’
* The earliest levels of learning to count.
* A host of interesting ideas about resources and practical ways of teaching.
